Efraim Schröger

born 1727, died 1783

Polish architect of German heritage, student of Johann Sigmund Deybel. From 1743, he resided in Warsaw, travelling regularly to Italy, Germany and France. In 1753, he was named conductor of the Construction Bureau, while in 1762, he was head of royal building construction. His designs included: i.a., the chapel of Primate A. Komorowski in Łowicz (1761-64), renovation of the Prymasowski Palace in Warsaw (1776-83) and the cluster of palace buildings in Skierniewice (1761-65), along with a church (1780-81) and town hall (1781) in the latter city. One of his most significant works was the Church of Dominican Worshippers (1760-64) and the façade of the Church of the Carmelites in Warsaw (1761-83).
