Friedrich Anton August Lohrmann
The drawing depicts the suicide of the Savoyard monk, committed probably in one of Warsaw’s public places. The Savoyard could have come to Poland looking for a place of solitude, and the act he commited could be understood as a kind of protest with a motive that as yet remains undiscovered. In reality, the true reason and course of events are unknown: the image remains one of the mysteries of the Print Room collection. In this case, the limits of the archive and the limits of our knowledge overlap.
