Goshka Macuga

The artist has reconstructed the political genealogy of the Women’s Strike logo, comparing it to the Kościuszko Insurrection, when the black silhouette depicting the leader was an important element of the visual culture with an unequivocal political message. Thus, Macuga has established a link between the struggles of the past—which were focused on the rights of certain social classes and on independence—and the fight for women’s rights today. Thanks to the artist’s interest in the question of censorship, in the black silhouette you can see an element of the things that have been erased from history and deprived of a voice. The author of the Women's Strike logo is Ola Jasionowska
