Olga Czernyszewa

She graduated at the Moscow Cinema Academy and the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. She works mainly in film, photography and various object-based media, outlining an anthropology of post-Soviet society and its many layers of time, and also examining and the role of artist as an observer and chronicler with a singular mix of lyricism, humor, and melancholia. Her recent solo exhibitions took place in BAK, Utrecht (2011), Baibakov art projects, Moscow (2009), LMCC Lent Space, New York (2009), Yapı Kredi Kâzım Taşkent Art Gallery, Istanbul (2009), Foxy Production, New York (2008), White Space gallery, London (2006), Stella Art foundation, Moscow (2006 and 2005). In 2008, she made a solo screening in MoMA New York. Her works were shown at Moscow-Berlin. 1950-2000 (Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, 2003-2004), Russia! (Solomon R. Guggenheim museum, New York, 2005), Progressive Nostalgia (Centro per l'Arte Contemp. Luigi Pecci, Prato, 2007), and Ostalgia (New Museum, New York, 2011), among others. She participated in Sydney biennale (2005), Berlin Biennale (2010) and represented Russia at the 49th Venice biennale in 2001.
