Ferdynand Pinck

The artistic explorations of Ferdynand Pinck, a holder of the royal scholarship, centred on the depiction of emotions. Pinck ‘framed’ and copied fragments of works by other artists—especially Renaissance masters—with a special focus on gestures and facial expressions. In this case, you can see an interpretation of Domenichino’s fresco of 1610, representing exorcisms performed on a boy possessed by the devil and Saint Nilus’ miracle. While Pinck’s work reflects the orderly and scientific aspect of the enlightened reason studying the abnormal, Mikołaj Sobczak in his interpretation has gone back to the original and to the political dimension of the religious ritual.
