The print, inspired by Rembrandt’s art, illustrates the legend about the origin of drawing. According to Pliny the Elder, Kora, a daughter of the Greek artist Butades, upon saying goodbye to her lover, used coal to trace the outline of the shadow his face cast on the wall to keep at least some part of her beloved.
