Friedrich Anton August Lohrmann
born ~1735, died ~1800
German painter, draughtsman, copyist and miniaturist who resided in Poland. He was educated at the Berlin Academy under B.N. Le Suer, B. Rhode and A. van Loo. Between 1759-1773, he lived in Gdańsk (Danzig) and there he cooperated with Matthaeus Deisch in creating the cityscape series 50 Prospecte von Danzig (1761-1765) and Die Danziger Ausrufen (1762-1765), a series depicting the market sellers (known as the Gdańsk Callers). Between the 1770s and 1790s, he worked for King Stanisław II Augustus Poniatowski in Warsaw and for Prince Józef Poniatowski as of 1795. He painted oil portraits and miniatures. He also using draughting techniques using gouache and watercolor. His subjects include the king and other royal subjects, including Anna Szaniawska, as well as the cleric Gabriel Podoski and members of the court, such as the dwarf Józef Boruwłaski and his wife. He also made vistas of the Royal Łazienki Park and the Ujazdowski Castle, as well as drawings from the Warsaw theatrical stage.
